History and Mission

The organisation was established in March 2014 due to the alarming number of rapes, brutal murders, HIV/STI infections, physical assaults, and other forms of violence experienced by our LGBTIQ community members in and around Khayelitsha.
KKQH aims to provide MSM (men who have sex with other men), transgender women, and people who identify as gay, as well as queer people in the township with the care they need and to combat prejudice and stigma by working with the successful civil society organizations. Often, especially in peri-urban areas like Khayelitsha, people do not report such cases because they do not have or do not know of organisations that they can turn to.
Our community has grown since 2014. More and more queer people in the urban peripheries are starting to use services without prejudice or fear. We will continue to provide a new home to our growing queer community and servicing its needs.
